Plans are underway for the 3rd annual United Way/NFL Back to Football Friday event hosted by The Huron Wellness Committee (Vitality Huron) and the United Way Heartland Region. The goal of this event is to increase awareness about the correlation between food insecurity and obesity. On Friday, September 7th, we are encouraging local businesses to join the effort and organize activities that will focus on wellness and healthy lifestyles and join our efforts to conduct a city wide food drive while participating in a variety of healthy activities throughout the day. In years past, businesses have held healthy potlucks, recipe exchanges, flag football games and so much more. Aerostar International is already planning a challenge for the businesses in the industrial park and we anticipate more challenges from area businesses.
Again this year, Elite Auto will be hosting the “Walk to End Hunger” event with treadmills set up in the Elite Auto parking lot from 10 AM until 5 PM. Individuals are asked to donate healthy food items for The Salvation Army food bank and The Huron Backpack Program and then walk on treadmills. Please contact Elite Auto 352-2649 to schedule your time slot.
The Huron Wellness Committee is organizing a 30 minute city walk at 12:10 PM and seeking businesses to serve as departure sites.…all departing at the same time (12:10 PM) but from various locations throughout the city. The 30 minute route can be determined by the host business and one option is to culminate at Elite Auto and drop off donated food items received at participants businesses. We are asking that all donated food items be dropped off at Elite Auto no later than 4:00 PM.
We encourage all area businesses to join us on Friday, September 7th as we strive to increase healthy lifestyles in Huron and celebrate Back to Football Friday – don’t forget to wear your favorite football jersey!
